Thank you to all our Cardiff Half runners
08/10/2025
ON a beautiful Sunday morning, nearly 30 runners turned out to run the streets of Cardiff for Dreams and Wishes.
The runners in the Cardiff Half Marathon raised more than £11,000 for us. Every penny goes direct to granting unforgettable wishes for seriously ill children - and we have seen first hand the smiles it brings and the memories that can be made.
Thank you too everyone who donated or cheered the runners round the course. Tony Curtis MBE said: "We are so grateful to every one of the runners who have helped raise vital funds that will bring smiles on faces and create precious memories for families."
One of the runners was Cameron Lewis, who ran in memory of his daughter Eden. He said: "In July 2020 by family were given a devastating blow, our 14-year-old daughter Eden was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Her battle was incredibly tough on her and for the rest of us to watch. In March 2022 we were told that nothing more could be done for her and we had to prepare to say goodbye to her. No parents wants to hear that their child has cancer, let alone that it's going to one day take their child for good. Unfortunately that's our reality.
"Since her diagnosis, Dreams and Wishes have granted wishes and given Eden and the rest of us some amazing opportunities to make memories that we can treasure for life. These wishes have included a mobile phone for Eden, a family trip to Chessington, Eden got to watch Ed Sheeran from a hospitality box, spend a day hanging out with her favourite WWE wrestler and others and got to enjoy Clash as the Castle.
"Her favourite wish was visiting RAF Oldham to hand out with the 18(b) squadron, where her great grandfather was once their squadron leader and flew the Chinook, and even visit the fire station where her grandad once worked.
"Dreams and Wishes continue to grant wishes for seriously sick children, but can't without support from events such as the Cardiff Half Marathon. I decided to do the half after running the dad's race at my son Logan's sports day and it broke my heart to see him upset because I came last as I struggled to get around the track. When I saw the opportunity to participate in the half marathon I jumped at the opportunity, as I've worked hard to improve my physical health for my children. If Eden can fight to keep living, then I can fight to be as healthy as possible for all my three children."
