Convoy of supercars helps Aiden on his final journey

When Dreams & Wishes urgently asked for help, nearly 50 supercar owners answered the call. They came together for nine-year-old Aiden Cox, who had always loved supercars. His dream had always been to sit in one, but tragically the schoolboy died suddenly before that wish could be granted.

The nine-year-old had been diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, one of the most common forms for cancer in children, in 2022 and had been bravely battling the disease. His family said was always "such a happy, smiley young man", even when he was going through the hardest treatment.

During his treatment the family had received support from Dreams & Wishes, when we arranged for Aiden to visit the Harry Potter Studios earlier this year, and had plans in place for him to be able to sit in a supercar.

But when he died before the wish could be granted, volunteers at the charity put out an appeal for help to form a convoy of supercars to escort the funeral procession through his hometown of Blackwood.

And the response was overwhelming. Nearly 50 supercar enthusiasts from the local community and beyond came together following a social media plea to create a moving tribute for Aiden. The convoy procession went up Blackwood High Street and passed Aiden's junior school before making its way to the crematorium.

Tony Curtis, chairman of the charity, said: "We wanted to find some way to offer a final tribute to this beloved young boy. He loved supercars and we thought this would be a fitting tribute. We put out an urgent appeal and are so grateful to all the owners who came from far and wide to help make it happen.

"We were amazed by the response, and it was very moving on the day to see the special tribute to such a brave boy."

He also thanked the local police for their support and Sainsbury's who provided space for the cars to assemble.
